Maybe in your college days, you did drive through Taco Bell or Mickey D’s after a night of drinking.
Or perhaps you’re jonesing for a Double Double, Animal-style at In & Out. Skip the bun so you can order fries.
A guilty pleasure, especially for foodies and health nuts, right?
Plan Check’s Exec Chef Ernesto Uchimura spins a number of fast food inspired hits at L.A.’s Plan Check outposts on Sawtelle, Fairfax, and the new City West/DTLA locale.
Exec Chef Ernesto Uchimura’s K-BBQ Burger featured at the DTLA outpost of Plan Check is a nod to the American classic and Koreatown’s Western Ave. Plan Check’s original Sawtelle/West L.A. location and the Fairfax outpost feature comfort-food inspired dishes with a nod to each location’s local culture, as well as the chef’s hybrid Argentinean meets Asian background.
The third location in downtown L.A.’s City West neighborhood serves small plates, a pretty impressive collection of Japanese whiskeys, and craft beer to downtown foodies, including the signature burger inspired by Carl’s Jr.’s Bacon Western Cheeseburger.
Uchimura did a tour of duty at L.A.’s Umami Burger and his ketchup/condiment leather at Plan Check keeps everything neat and tidy.
Uchimura’s latest rendition features kimcheese (gruyere processed with wine and dried kimchi for seasoning,) Gochujang barbecue sauce, grilled pork belly, sesame salt, fried onions, and sprouting onions.
Toss back a few Japanese whiskeys at the 21-seat bar and order a K-BBQ Burger. Skip the late night drive-through.
Plan Check Kitchen + Bar/Downtown L.A.
Restaurateur Terry Heller and Exec Chef Ernesto Uchimura have brought Plan Check to DTLA’s City West hood. Heller says, ““We see great opportunity in the City West area of downtown L.A,” says Heller. “There’s a lot of development slated for the community and we’re excited to get in on the ground level. We’re drawn to neighborhoods in L.A. that are culturally rich, where we can immerse ourselves in the culinary fabric of their ongoing story. We envision Plan Check Downtown as neighborhood restaurant nestled within a sophisticated, urban setting.”
Plan Check Kitchen + Bar’s City West locale offers an culturally-inspired comfort food menu along with premium whiskeys and craft beers. Uchimura peppers the menu selections with influences echoing the close-by neighborhoods of East L.A. and Koreatown, along with Plan Check favorites like Smokey Fried Chicken with smoked milk gravy, yam preserves, and spicy pickled okra.
New additions to Plan Check’s third outpost include the K-BBQ Burger; Meat & Potatoes, beef short rib pot roast, caramelized tomato, cauliflower puree, cheesy tots and flaked wasabi; and Spicy Tuna Salad with Sriracha vinaigrette, avocado, puffed rice, sesame, black radish, yellow frisee, nori, and garlic flowers.
