There may be no food that says, “Classic LA” quite like the burger — and Esters Wine Shop & Bar is following up this summer’s weekly Tuesday Burger Night with visits from chef friends who will whip up their own signature burgers one night each month.
“Over the past two years, we’ve grown into a neighborhood clubhouse of sorts, with many of our chef and sommelier friends dropping in on their days off, and a series of casual events to keep our regulars entertained, such as the Guest Sommelier Nights. As many great ideas are hatched at a bar, the Guest Chef Burger Series came about when Michael Fiorelli was digging into the Esters Burger and chatting with Chris,” says Co-Owner and Wine Director Kathryn Coker. “We decided to turn it into a whole series, and now we’re excited to welcome some of our dear friends to cook up something new, drink some wine, and hang out with us and our guests. Plus, who doesn’t love a burger?”
The Monthly Guest Chef Burger Series starts at 6:00 p.m. on select Tuesdays. Burgers will be available for $19 each until the kitchen runs out. Kathryn Coker is pairing a different wine or beer with each chef’s burger.
Below is the latest schedule, with more to come in the future months:
Tuesday, September 26 – Love & Salt’s Michael Fiorelli only serves “The Downlow Burger” at his Manhattan Beach Italian-inspired restaurant during weekend brunch and Sunday dinner, but the iconic burger has been regularly spotlighted on best of lists since he originally debuted it as an off-menu item at mar’sel at Terranea. The burger, an elevated take on the Double-Double at In-n-Out, features two Black Angus beef patties, topped with Fontina cheese, caramelized onions, house pickles, and tomato aioli.
Tuesday, October 17 – In advance of The NoMad LA’s opening in Downtown Los Angeles, chefs Chris Flint and Ashley Abodeely will reunite with Chris Ono (a friend from his years at Eleven Madison Park) to offer The Nomad’s Chicken Burger with foie gras, truffle mayo, frisée, and pickled shallots.
Tuesday, November 14 – Cassia’s Bryant Ng is popping over from next door to cook up a Pastrami Burger, inspired by those found in the San Gabriel Valley. His version features ground short rib, slaw, herbs, pickled bird’s eye chilies, and American cheese.
Tuesday, December 5 – Milo & Olive and Huckleberry Bakery & Café’s Erin Eastland, another chef within the Rustic Canyon Family of Restaurants, is stopping in to cook up a special burger that will be announced in the weeks to come.
Tuesday, January 9 – Felix’s Evan Funke debuted one of the city’s most memorable burgers when he was the Executive Chef at Rustic Canyon from 2008-2012. His burger for Esters features two Black Angus patties, Tillamook cheddar, dill pickles, herb remoulade, onion fondue, and wild arugula on a potato bun.
Esters is still hosting their Tuesday Burger Nights on the off-evenings, every week, where fans can enjoy Chris Ono’s five-ounce, grass-fed burger on a freshly-baked Milo & Olive brioche bun, topped with crisp butter lettuce, heirloom tomato, grilled red onions, American cheese, and “Esters special sauce,” alongside housemade BBQ chips for $16. Different wine pairing suggestions with the burger are available eachTuesday night.
Esters Wine Shop & Bar is walk-in only, so reservations for the Guest Chef Burger Series and Tuesday Burger Nights are not required.
