Father’s Day — or any day — in L.A. is resplendent with authentic Italian options. Here’s a delightful pair of Revere faves. Buon Giorno!
The Ponte: To toast Papa, Scott Conant is presenting classic yet refined Italian dishes at this elegant WeHo dining destination. Choose from the à la carte brunch menu with the refreshing Citrus Cured Trout served with beets, tarragon, pickled red onion, and mascarpone; Benedict Poached Eggs kicked up with prosciutto, tomato Hollandaise and mixed greens; and the signature Pasta al Pomodoro.
Exec Chef Freddy Vargas takes his cue from the local farmers’ markets and seasonal produce. For dinner, options will include Wood-Roasted Prawns with a squid ink farro risotto; Ricotta Gnudi with morels and asparagus; and Prime Striploin with potatoes and a red wine reduction.
Pair it all with master mixologist/Bar Director Ryan Wainright’s primo craft cocktails.
The Smile’s di Alba: In the epicenter of DTLA’s Arts District, this casual counter and takeaway spot serves Roman-style focaccias, paninos, market-driven salads and seasonal fare for breakfast and lunch daily. Pick up an Italian Chopped Salad with finnochiona, fontina, and pepperoncinis; Italian Tuna with Heirloom tomatoes, Kalamata olives, shallots and basil in a red wine oregano vinaigrette; or Bomb Broccolini with garlic chips and Calabrian chili.
Summer offerings include a Caprese panino with Proscuitto di Parma; Wu Tang Clams with Sopressata and cannelini beans; Spicy Meatball sandwich with fresh burrata, basil, housemade spicy meatballs and San Marzano tomato sauce on a house bun, baked fresh daily.
For dessert, indulge in pastry/sous chef Zena Scharf’s rye brownies with smoked sea salt; strawberry rhubarb polenta cake or toffee-chocolate chip cookies. Yum.
