Chef Joachim Splichal and Patina Catering are teaming with non-profit L.A. Kitchen and several local farms to cater the 2017 Emmy® Awards Ball Events — with a focus on community and sustainability.
Patina Catering will return as the official caterer for the Television Academy’s exclusive Emmy® after-party celebrations: the Governors Ball on Sunday, September 17, immediately following the 69th Emmy Awards telecast; and back-to-back Creative Arts Governors Ball events on Saturday, September 9, and Sunday, September 10. Splichal will be joined by Greg Wiele (Exec Chef of Patina Restaurant Group), Alec Lestr (Exec Chef of Patina Catering) and Frania Mendivil (Exec Pastry Chef of Patina Restaurant Group.) The evening’s Golden Grandeur theme will showcase a three-course menu highlighting peak seasonal produce while exemplifying culinary sustainability and commitment to giving back.
Patina Catering is partnering with L.A. Kitchen, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that empowers, nourishes, and engages the community through reclaimed food. As part of the collaboration, the organization’s team members have the opportunity to assist with food preparation at the Television Academy event. L.A. Kitchen offers a culinary training program in food service for unemployed men and women, as well as providing healthy meals to the community. This partnership is an extension of the ongoing partnership between L.A. Kitchen and the Patina Restaurant Group. Earlier this year, Splichal announced a job training program for the nonprofit at Rise Up! Café, a new eatery located within The California Endowment in Downtown Los Angeles.
“With over 200 cooks in the kitchen, nearly 20 of my most talented executive chefs, and over 600 servers presenting the final dishes to the guests, catering this event every year is an extraordinary culinary feat,” comments Splichal. “I am honored to have members of L.A. Kitchen join our ranks this year and to do whatever I can to give back to the local agricultural community.”
Following the event, Patina Catering will be donating any food from the galas to the farms to be used as compost for the next season of crops.
