What better spot to celebrate the Festival of Lights than Plan Check Kitchen + Bar’s Fairfax outpost? Chef Uchimura pulls from his Japanese/Jewish heritage to put a spin on each menu item at the mod American eatery, including his innovative takes on accompaniments like kimchi mustard and squid ink-laced cream cheese.
Pastrami-lovers like our friend Theo will embrace menu items like Pastrami Nosh ($13) with double smoked pastrami, melty swiss cheese, kimchi mustard, pickles, and a sunny fried egg and Pastrami Gravy Fries ($7), beef tallow french fries with pastrami bits, pastrami gravy, melty swiss cheese, chopped pickles, and a secret menu item.
For those who don’t do red meat – this is LA! — Chef Uchimura’s menu includes Salmon Pastrami ($13.50) with green peppercorns, inky cream cheese, brined celery, and borage — all on an everything bagel chip, exclusive to the Fairfax location.
Wash it all down with an S&L Old Fashioned on tap or an IPA and top off the meal with Crullers made to order, served with cream and fruit. Beats that jelly donut hands down!
