Those of us in L.A. will have to forego the annual Shamrock shake this year. According to multiple media reports, the seasonal shake won’t be making an appearance at most SoCal McD’s. My inbox has been teeming with recipes for substitutions, a few of which included a frozen bag of spinach and mint leaves, which, well, seems kinda wrong.
No worries! Plan Check Kitchen + Bar (Sawtelle, Fairfax, and DTLA) is serving a Jameson Grasshopper Milkshake ($10) that blends vanilla ice cream with Jameson, minty grasshopper cookies, and of course, plenty of whipped cream! Not sure what to do about the teetotalers and under 21 crowd!
The spiked shake is only available today so run don’t walk — or maybe Uber!
And what’s St. Patrick’s Day without corned beef? From today through Sunday, Plan Check Exec Chef Ernesto Uchimura is whipping up some reimagined dishes featuring his double-smoked corned beef which becomes pastrami!
Plan Check’s St. Patty’s menu includes:
Pastrami Nosh ($13): Double-smoked pastrami with melty Swiss cheese, kimchi mustard, pickles, and a sunny-fried egg
Pastrami Burger: ($14.50): Beef patty, pastrami, melty Swiss, pickles, kimchi mustard, all on a panko-crusted crunch bun.
Pastrami Gravy Fries ($9): Beef tallow fries topped with pastrami bits, pastrami gravy, melty Swiss, and chopped pickles
