Top Chef alums are spreading their love all over the southland. Phillip Frankland Lee is preparing for a fall launch of his popular Encino restaurants up the coast at the Montecito Inn. If you’ve ever mosied down to Playa Provisions, you’ve probably sampled the unique frozen novelties, cookie dough scoops, pints-to-go, and pastries, all of which will be available at the new L.A. locale.

Brooke and Nick continue to expand their Company for Dinner Hospitality Group, which includes Hudson House in Redondo Beach; The Tripel, the four-in-one beachside complex Playa Provisions, and Tripli-Kit in Playa del Rey; and Da Kikokiko in Playa Vista.

The original Small Batch opened in 2014 within Playa Provisions — but this location is a stand-alone concept, serving a the workspace and development kitchen for both locations. Small Batch specializes in housemade nostalgic ice cream flavors and novelties with a twist.

“We’ve been watching the Mar Vista area grow over the past couple of years, so we’re excited to add to the up-and-coming neighborhood by creating a destination for ice cream lovers and families,” says Brooke. “Expanding Small Batch also gives us the ability to develop our menu and be more creative since we now have a dedicated kitchen to focus solely on ice cream and frozen treats,” says Nick.

Lindsay Kirk, pastry chef at Playa Provisions who has working with Brooke and Nick to imagine Small Batch’s unique flavors and treats for a few year, will be overseeing the menu.
